The Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) is a citation index produced since 2015 by Thomson Reuters and now by Clarivate. According to the publisher, the index includes “peer-reviewed publications of regional importance and in emerging scientific fields” (1). Journals in ESCI have passed an initial editorial evaluation and can continue to be considered for inclusion in products such as SCIE, SSCI, and AHCI (1). All ESCI journals are indexed according to the same data standards, including cover-to-cover indexing, cited reference indexing, subject category assignment, and indexing all authors and addresses (1).

Launched in November 2016, Annals of Blood (ISSN 2521-361X; Ann Blood; AOB) is an open access, peer-reviewed, electronic journal (Figure 2) and the official journal of Guangzhou Blood Center. AOB aims at prompting the development of transfusion medicine and hematology research, and providing a professional platform for physicians and investigators internationally to share advanced research results, clinical experience and innovative ideas. On June 26, 2021, AOB was accepted for inclusion in Scopus.

AOB has formed an internationalized editorial board (Figure 3) and has published 274 articles as of March 25, 2024, with corresponding authors from 37 countries (Figure 4). Its pageviews have generally been increasing since 2017 (Figure 5).

AOB would not have achieved the remarkable milestone of being included in ESCI, without the continuous support and joint efforts from our distinguishing editorial board members, guest editors, authors, reviewers, readers, and the entire editorial team. We herein would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the contributors. No doubt we will continue to strive to publish high-quality articles and bring AOB to the forefront.
